The textbook consists of two parts. In the fi rst part, students learn about thenational minorities living in Poland, their legal status and actual situation, the regional varieties of the Polish language and dialects, individual representatives of diff erent nationalities who have played a significant role in Polish culture and history, as well as Polish diasporas abroad and prominent Polish emigrants, and the current state of migration processes in the European Union. The second part allows you to summarize and deepen your knowledge about the national character of the Poles (self-portraits and outside perspectives), as well as to generalize the knowledge that students have gained about what kind of people the Poles are, what unites them as a community that diff ers from others in terms of shared values, norms, traditions, temperament, appearance, etc. Understanding the self-perception of the Poles and their relationships with other nations provides the necessary perspective for discussing the fi nal set of issues within the manual: historical and cultural stereotypes in Russian-Polish relations and ways to overcome them.
