Abstract:
This publication is the world's first atlas reflecting the diplomatic geography of Russian foreign policy. Diplomatic geography is the science of the spatial dimension of diplomatic activity, a completely new field in human geography and international relations. The number of foreign missions can indicate a country's weight in global politics, and the choice of countries and cities to host embassies, consulates, and trade and cultural missions reflects a country's foreign policy priorities. This diplomatic atlas provides a detailed map of the geography of diplomatic missions of the USSR and the Russian Federation, reflecting the status and duration of diplomatic relations, and the territorial structure of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Reference information on Russia's diplomatic relations is current as of May 7, 2025. It includes data on all UN member states and other countries recognized by Russia as sovereign. Information on diplomatic relations is provided since 1917. For specialists interested in geographical methods in international studies, the geography of Russia's foreign missions, and the geographical priorities of its foreign policy.
